The Amey team at Waterbeach Waste Management Park dealt with a small fire this evening in waste delivered to the site.

The suspected source of ignition is batteries that should not have been in the waste. Please do not put batteries in your rubbish (or recycling) bins – hold on to them for now, store them safely at home until HWRCs or shops that offer take-back are able to re-open after the Covid-19 lockdown.

The fire was controlled rapidly by our team on site, before two fire engines dispatched by Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service had reached the site. We are as always extremely grateful to our fellow frontline workers at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue.
